About Choosing Passwords
Don't...
- Don't use your first or last name.
- Don't use use your spouse's or child's name.
- Don't use your username or log-in name in any form. Not
even doubled, capitalized or reversed.
- Don't use information about yourself that is easily
obtained. For instance, don't use your license plate numbers, telephone
numbers, social security numbers, automobile brandname, or street name where
you live.
- Don't compose a password of all numbers or all the same
letter. Doing so would shorten the search time for sometime trying to get
in.
- Don't use a word from an English or foreign language
dictionary, spelling list or other list of words.
- Don't use a password shorter than six characters.
- Don't write down your password.
Do...
- Do compose a password with more than six characters.
- Do compose a password that is easy to remember.
- Do include both uppercase and lowercase alphabet letters in
your password.
- Do include numbers and punctuation marks, as well as
letters, in your password.
- Do compose a password that can be typed quickly without
looking at the keyboard. That will make it harder for someone to watch over
your shoulder.
