What Do I Read Next?

Reviewed 7/09 SR

What Do I Read Next? (WDIRN) is another readers' advisory database. It is from Gale, but uses a different platform, so we want to do a quick demonstration just to raise awareness of it.

Have the class go to mel.org and find WDIRN in the list of databases and open it.

Ask them to click on TITLE AND SERIES SEARCH, then have them "unclick" the ADULTS and the NONFICTION boxes at the top of the screen. Leave the buttons at the default settings and have them type cat who in the second box on the screen (for Enter the series name). Do the search. Click on CAT WHO SERIES to find the list of books.

Have them go to the MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS link on the left side (in dark blue). Let them look at the page and explain that this obviously changes each month. Nice for thematic ideas.

Have them go to the MAIN MENU. Click on AUTHOR SEARCH, then tell them to type in the name of their own favorite author. Let them review the results that display.

Do the exercises for this database.
