Replacing barcodes

There are several ways to replace a barcode. They include from the Holdings Maintenance screen, from the Item Status screen and from the Replace Barcode feature.


From Holdings Maintenance

Retrieve a record that has an item attached with a barcode you want to replace.


Click Actions for this Record and select Holdings Maintenance.


The holdings screen will display. Make sure the boxes labeled Show Volumes and Show Items are checked so that the items and volumes are automatically shown with the holdings display. Select the item whose barcode you want to replace by clicking on it. Click on Actions for Selected Rows.


Select Replace Barcode. You may need to use the arrow at the bottom of the list to scroll to that option. Note: you can also right click on the copy and select Replace Barcode.


The Volume and Copy Creator will open in a new tab with the barcode highlighted. Scan or manually enter in the new barcode.


Click on Re-barcode/Update Items. Note: if you click on Edit then Re-barcode, the Copy Editor will open in a new window and allow you to make any changes to the copy.


The barcode will be updated.


From Item Status

Retrieve the Item Status screen.


Scan or manually type in the barcode of the item you want to replace.


Right click on the item that is now displayed below and select Replace Barcode. [Note: you can also select the item and click on either Actions for Catalogers OR Actions for Selected Items and select Replace Barcode.]


A box will pop up with the message: "Enter the replacement bardode for the copy:". Scan in or manually enter in the new barcode and click on OK.


The item status screen will refresh with new barcode listed.


Using the replace barcode feature

Click on the arrow next to the Item Status button. Select Replace Barcode.


A box will pop up with the message: "Enter original barcode for the item:". Scan or manually enter in the barcode you want to replace. Click on OK.


Another box will pop up with the message: "Enter the replacement barcode for the item:". Scan or manually enter in the new replacement barcode. Click on OK.


The barcode has been updated.
