MeL Gateways

7/09 SR

The Gateways are designed to pull together databases, focused and reviewed Internet sites, and typical MeLCat searches related to several major topics. The topics were selected based on statistical analysis of usage.

Look at the MeL home page, left side. There are several oblong green buttons.

-Full Text Magazines and Newspapers is a link to the service that lets users find out which periodicals are in

which database(s).

-Tests and Tutorials goes right to the LearningExpress Library home page.

The other green buttons go to Gateways. Each Gateway has a standard layout, with Internet sites on the left,

relevant databases listed as Key Resources in the middle of the page, and (usually) sample MeLCat searches on

the bottom of the page.

Have the class click on KIDS and take a look at it, then give the class a few minutes to look at other

Gateways they might use.

Have the class go back to mel.org, then click on FEATURED RESOURCES. We don't have a lot of time to

go into this, but this has recently been revamped to include "hot topics" and things of current

interest. Content will change as the world around us changes. People just need to know that this is

one place to find some key content quickly.
