Item Status screen (F5)
What it is
The Item Status utility is extremely useful, as many activities can be initiated from the resulting screen. Not only can you quickly check the status of those random items lying about the circulation desk, but you also can do some cataloging and circulation functions from this screen.
There are several ways to get to the item status screen to check out items for patrons. You can:
- Press the F5 key on the keyboard
- Click on the Item Status button
- Click on the Circulation menu and select Show Item Status by Barcode
The Item Status screen has its heading shaded in bright yellow.
Notice that there are two drop-down menus above the status screen to the right – Actions for Catalogers and Actions for Selected Rows. These menus provide a plethora of actions that can be applied to the selected item(s).

How to use Item Status
Access the item status screen by using the F5 key on the keyboard, the Item Status button or the Circulation menu and selecting Show Item Status by Barcode
Scan the barcode into the green box or if you enter in the barcode manually click on the Submit button/hit the Enter key on the keyboard.
The item and its current status appear along with other information. More information can be displayed by clicking on the column picker on the far right.
To add another column heading of – for example ISBN, select ISBN from the drop-down. Notice how ISBN has been added to the column heading and the item’s ISBN is displayed.
If you wanted to perform an action from one of the two menus (Actions for Catalogers/Actions for Selected Items), after scanning in the item, select the item, click on the corresponding menu and select the function.
