When to use z39.50

After searching for a record in the Michigan Evergreen catalog by several methods and NO matches are found - it is necessary to search outside catalogs via the Z39.50 search interface to attempt to find a good matching record. This is only to be done after thorough searching has yielded no results for the record in the Michigan Evergreen catalog. For some fun reading, please see our Michigan Evergreen Cataloging Policies.

Process for searching in Michigan Evergreen

  1. Search by ISBN/ISSN.
  2. Search by title/author.
  3. Search by any other means necessary.
  4. Try all those searches again just to be sure you aren't going to bring in an unnecessary record that will eventually have to be merged by Michigan Evergreen staff.

If those searches are unsuccessful, then it is necessary to search outside catalogs via Z39.50.
