NEWS: April 2010:
The MeL Study is complete. The Library of Michigan has been working with EPIC MRA since last fall to complete a study of MeL and library usage. The study included 3 separate surveys - a random phone survey of the general public, an online survey of library users, and an online survey of library staff.
We received a tremendous response, including feedback from all 83 counties and all library types. We learned a great deal about how the general public, library users and staff use libraries and MeL. The study data will help us continue improving the Michigan eLibrary.

MeLCat Statewide Catalog
The MeLCat Statewide Catalog is a centralized union catalog with up-to-date holdings from all participating libraries.
- Library participation is voluntary
- Holdings are updated frequently
- Libraries’ holdings for the same title are brought together
Who's in MeLCat now? Please see Participating MeLCat Libraries.
MeLCat includes:
- Holdings regardless of the library automation system used by the participating libraries
- Records for statewide licensed resources
- NetLibrary books
- Full-text journals
- Holdings of unautomated libraries
- Book reviews, tables of contents and cover art, when possible
MeLCat does not replace local integrated library systems (ILSs).
Groups of libraries are being added three times a year. If all Michigan's libraries participate, MeLCat could grow to more than 12 million unique titles with more than 48 million items, including books, CDs, videos, DVDs and other library materials.
Does your library want to join MeLCat? Please see Participation.
This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan.
